DRIVING STRUCTURING PROJECTS
Biosphere develops scientific, environmental and educational projects on the UNESCO-designated territory. Some projects are also implemented and conducted by the Uapishka Foundation, a registered charity.
Uapishka Biodiversity Reserve Management Committee
Since 2013, the MUWBR has been leading the management committee comprising a host of stakeholders with a close connection to this protected area in the Uapishka (Groulx) Mountains sector.
The RMBMU has a purpose to foster the acquisition and sharing of knowledge on its designated territory, by contributing to the development of scientific research and supporting research teams during their projects.
Ecological integrity monitoring program
This program involves several projects carried out to acquire knowledge, build capacity and design evidence-based decision-support tools within the Uapishka biodiversity reserve.
Creation of protected areas or other effective area-based conservation measures (OECMs)
This project is part of ongoing efforts expended by every Canadian biosphere reserve to contribute to the goal of protecting 30% of their territories by 2030.
Sustainable northern tourism initiative
As part of the Ministère du Tourisme's Action Plan for Responsible and Sustainable Tourism 2020-2025, the MUWBR is leading an outreach project to document and showcase the best tourism practices suited for the northern experience.
