A leave-no-trace race
Marie-Michelle_Cote
On November 14th, 2010, Yvon Côté, a citizen from Baie-Comeau, accomplished his commitment made earlier this year with the Special Intervention Unit of the MUWBR in organizing a race in which more than fifty persons participated.
As we know, jogging leaves no environmental trace. All the necessary equipment for the route (signs, arrows, ribbons, nails) have been removed right after the race. Trashes has been collected and what was recyclable has been sorted out.
Some citizens now mobilize themselves and work together to develop a circuit and a jogging club in Baie-Comeau.

Great journalism from here

The Professional Federation of Quebec Journalists (PFQJ) has awarded the Judith-Jasmin Price to Carl Marchand and Benoît Jobin for their report ''The last game'' (La dernière chasse), aired on Radio-Canada Côte-Nord

The Carrefour familial of Chute-aux-Outardes, an initiative recognized in provincial

In September 2010, during the Soirée des Grands Prix de la rurality (of rurality) which took place in Maniwaki, the Carrefour familial de Chute-aux-Outardes was particularly distinguished. Indeed, the organization has been selected as one of three finalists for the rural organization Price of the year.

This provincial event, which was at its third edition, wants to pay tribute to the leaders in rural development, highlighting people and organizations as well as initiatives and innovations.

This recognition was perfect timing since the Carrefour familial celebrated in 2010 its fifteenth anniversary, fifteen years of help and support to families in need. The community organization has distinguished itself for the Price of rural organization of the year, thanks to its vision of future oriented in needs to the collectivity and through its interventions such as : collective kitchen, crèche and workshops on parenthood, to name a few.

The Jardin des glaciers

The Jardin des glaciers is equipped with a vision and values, placing at the foreground the principles of sustainable tourism and the protection of ecosystems and coastal habitats.

In this connection, a sustainable development policy is already underway, in collaboration with some specialists (including M. Gérard Croteau, eco-advisor and founder of the project « Pensons Climat » and an eco-advisor of the Manicouagan-Uapishka World Biosphere Reserve). Moreover, a conservation and development plan is already in place since 2004.

The Jardin des glaciers has won at the Grands Prix du tourisme régionaux 2010 in the Sustainable tourism category.

Écobois, the avant-guardist

Écobois

The MUWBR and the SADC of Manicouagan accompany since June 2010 seven small or medium enterprises located in the region in a sustainable development vision through innovation and transition to action.

Sylvie Ostigny from Écobois Manicouagan explains us the major issues of her business and the advantages of such an approach.

Écobois faces the challenge of recruitment and retention of cabinetmakers who work with recycled wood. ''What we want to do with wood is new in the area, so we can not refer to another company. At the same time, everything we've done, it was new here : the Eco-Centre, the Quebec's craft shop. And it worked! So we don't give up'' says Ms Ostigny.

It is a great challenge to be at the forefront and a pioneer in its field for this business that won the Grand Prix Tourisme durable at the 2009 Grands Prix du tourisme québécois!

The advantages of this approach?  The sustainable development opens the door to new ways of seeing the business as part of a complex system. The interaction between its economical, social and environmental components offer opportunities to reinvent itself and to move forward.
